What to expect
Ever wondered what it’s like waking up in a tent with an elephant drinking water from your pool right outside? Welcome to Inverdoorn Game Reserve! With such close proximity to Cape Town, it’s hard to give this place a miss! If you love animals, or you’ve been limited on going on a safari maybe due to time or money, this is the perfect place to give you a taster of what a safari is like. Spreading over 5,000 hectares, it’s nowhere near as big as the well known Masai Mara safari in Kenya but here you’ll still be able to spot the Big Five!

Getting There
The 2 and a half hour drive is a stunning road trip in itself, passing through mountain landscapes and vineyards. We hired the car from Cape Town and we were asked where we’d be going as some cars aren’t covered for gravel. Make sure you get insurance when you hire your car as you will be going off road and down a few dirt tracks. We were completely fine, but you do get the odd pebbles flying up while you drive that could potentially damage the car slightly, so it’s better to be safe.
Early Morning Surprise Visit From This Big Guy!
Food + Drink
Our room rate included full board so we were treated to breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was a selection of seasonal fruits, a full english fry up with eggs, sausages and toast, finished off with tea or coffee.
Dinner consisted of a traditional braai with local meats and some delicious South African wine from a local vineyard. The staff were very attentive to the cooking and vegetarian options were also available.

What to do
Safari, safari and safari! When you book your stay you’ll be able to choose how many game drives you go on depending on your package. Ours included 2, one in the afternoon and one in the early morning. This allows you to be able to see different animals based on their feeding times and when they’re more likely to be roaming around.
Inverdoorn also has several pools for guests to relax during the day, and is also home to the cheetah conservation centre where they rehabilitate them to set them back up for releasing them into the wild. They offer guest experiences (no touching of cheetahs) where you’re able to watch them run or get an educational tour from a member of staff.

Female and Solo Safety Rating – 4/5
As you’re in the middle of a nature reserve, the safety levels here are high. There is strict security when you enter the premises so you’re completely closed off. The evenings here are peaceful, staff are very attentive and always available. We also felt respected and were never made to feel uncomfortable. We didn’t feel anything dodgy here apart from a few rustling of leaves from the nocturnal animals!
